This spirit of exploration has led to the creation of some of the most successful and popular production basses of all time. Following this same drive to bring new and relevant ideas to the musical forefront is what serves as the basis for this ongoing project, dubbed the Ibanez Bass Workshop. The impetus behind each one of these unique instruments comes from a desire by the Ibanez bass development team to satisfy the particular needs of many players. These inventions may not be for everyone, but for those who yearn to explore new sonic vistas through the medium of bass: The Ibanez Bass Workshop project may give you just what you're looking for.
Nordstrand™ "Big Break" pickups cram a powerful split coil into a soapbar-style pickup, producing a full-bodied, powerful, aggressive tonal texture, while retaining the clarity that's characteristic of single coil tone with noiseless performance. The custom bridge contains the magic of the AeroSilk Piezo system to provide that sense of "air" that characterizes upright sound.
The AeroSilk MR5 bridge has unique saddles which were specifically-designed to work in concert with the piezo pickups, enhancing the acoustic "Upright" quality of the tone
The EQ section incorporates the controls of the magnetic pickup(s) with the AeroSilk Piezo system. Controls include a Master volume, bass and treble controls for the pickup(s) and a Master volume and a tone control for the Piezo system.

The bass boost/cut frequency curve has a peak at 20 Hz and a variable width that decreases toward the high range, and a curve that the variable width becomes zero at approximately 1000 Hz. The variable range becomes slightly larger in the high range than around 1000 Hz, but it becomes zero again near 5000 Hz. The variable range of the peak frequency is approximately ±15 dB. The treble boost/cut frequency curve creates a bell-shaped curve with a peak around 10000 Hz and zero variable range around 100 Hz. The variable range of the peak frequency is approximately ±15 dB.
There are six knobs total on this bass. With the bass held in the playing position, there are three knobs located towards the lower edge of the body. Directionally, from the lower bout towards the neck, these knobs control the piezo active tone, magnetic pickup treble boost/cut, and magnetic pickup bass boost/cut. Above these controls are three additional knobs located closer to the bridge. Directionally, from the lower bout towards the neck, these knobs control the piezo volume, bridge pickup volume, and neck pickup volume. You can also adjust the gain for each string with the trim pots located on the back panel. Turn the trim pot clockwise with a Philips head to boost gain, or turn the trim pot counter clockwise to cut gain. The trim pots are arranged in order with the strings.
