MANILA, Philippines — Audiophile Components Inc. is testing whether customization can drive higher margins in the professional audio market by launching a personalization program for Shure microphone models, which have long dominated live performance venues.

The country’s largest audio equipment distributor, in partnership with Color Hue, a Navotas-based art restoration company, began offering engraving services for select Shure wired and wireless microphone systems in September, allowing customers to add initials or short text to units that typically retail between P8,000 and P50,000.
The “Make It Yours” initiative covers four models: the SM58-LC and Beta 58A-X wired microphones, plus the SLXD24A/SM58 and SLXD24Z/B58 wireless systems. Customers can choose between two etching finishes and receive additional accessories, including a leather pouch and oversized clip.
Industry observers note the move reflects a broader shift among distributors seeking to create differentiation in a market where products are largely commoditized. While microphones have traditionally competed on technical specifications and durability, personalization introduces an emotional purchasing factor that could justify premium positioning.
For Audiophile, which operates stores nationwide, the strategy also serves to drive direct sales rather than losing business to online retailers or gray market suppliers. Personalized products create lock-in effects that reduce price comparison shopping and strengthen brand loyalty.
The SM58 microphone, introduced in 1966, remains an industry standard despite numerous competitors. By layering personalization onto an already-established product, Audiophile avoids the risks associated with promoting untested equipment while capturing a segment willing to pay for exclusivity.
